About the Post:
This is a challenging time in the Area Teams at Barnsley Council and we are working hard to protect our communities. Due to COVID-19 we have identified the need to recruit some Volunteering and Engagement Officers to support us to have conversations with our local communities, to help us ensure their safety is paramount and to help them to understand this ever-changing landscape.
You will work in the Area Teams across the six areas in Barnsley and have close links to Public Health and other partners to have those much-needed conversations in our communities and to utilise dynamic and different ways of delivering those messages.
We are looking for three people who know the Barnsley area to be Volunteering and Engagement Officers to work with us and help us to share the safety messages and to support the prevention of further outbreaks in our local communities. Good communication skills will be key to have conversations with other organisations and the community to ensure those messages are communicated in a way that people understand.
As one of the Volunteering and Engagement Officers you can expect to be out and about in the communities we serve, forming partnerships and engaging with our communities – both geographically and in the areas of greatest need. You will work on developing the messages with our colleagues in Public Health and our Communications team to influence and shape what those conversations look like and adapt those dependent on the communities you are working with.
These are full-time positions but will work flexibly to meet the needs of the communities you will be working with. There will be some evening and weekend work within your full-time hours.
You will work as part of a bigger team all who are based in the community where there are already some strong partnerships, networks and connections developed locally.
If you are looking for a role which will be very busy, at times challenging but always rewarding this may be the right role for you.
