About the Post:

Barnsley MBC is a strong, well-managed and capable council. It punches above its weight, regionally and nationally, and has been shortlisted for Council of the Year.

Barnsley Council’s Business Support Service is a fast paced, diverse and dynamic support service where no two days are the same but are equally rewarding.  We are a corporate service and work in partnership with the services we support to enable the delivery of front line and statutory services to the people and communities of Barnsley.  If you thrive in a busy, interesting and rewarding environment and would like to make a solid contribution to making a real difference in the lives of the vulnerable children in our Borough we would like to hear from you.

Duties include processing referrals, applying rules and guidelines, data inputting, problem solving, responding to telephone and face to face enquiries, providing advice, guidance, signposting and support to a range of internal and external customers, and processing financial purchasing and invoicing transactions for a range of goods and services.

In addition, you may be required to support a range of statutory meetings and panels, where recording proceedings directly onto a laptop and at speed is required. Many of the meetings are emotive in content and whilst a level of personal resilience is required, support will also be provided through regular one to one meetings and de-briefings.  There may also be an occasional requirement to provide reception support for an early evening meeting(s), usually 2-3 times per year.  These meetings take place in a town centre building and run from 5-7pm.

You will need to hold a level 2 qualification and have experience of working within a business support environment.

You will be flexible in your approach in order to ensure the overall service objectives are achieved, be an excellent team player and willing to make a solid contribution to the smooth running of the service.

In return, you will be provided with training and opportunities to progress your continuous personal development in line with the requirements of the role, together with support from your Team Leader and colleagues in an enthusiastic and dedicated team.

Hybrid working is currently in place with a mixture of home\office working.
