About the Post:

Barnsley has an ambitious strategy to re-energise our Library Service, creating community and digital hubs at the heart of our communities and developing a vibrant events and activities programme to engage all members of our communities.  With the recently opened Library@TheLightbox as part of the ‘The Glassworks’, the Council’s transformative town centre development scheme, and supported by plans to refurbish our branch libraries, this is an exciting time to join the Service.

We are looking for positive and imaginative candidates to join our team as Engagement Officers.  You will work with colleagues across the Library Service, Council and our communities to develop and deliver action plans and varied activity programmes to re-energise library services in local communities, engaging with members of the public and community groups to proactively target demographic sectors under-using the Service and create thriving community and digital hubs. You will actively market and promote libraries as community destinations, acting as an advocate and championing their role in supporting local priorities.

This is a Career Grade post, and the successful candidate will hold a minimum Level 4 qualification in a relevant area with experience of engagement activity with members of the public and community groups, developing successful partnerships in a community setting and evidence of delivering successful outreach, promotion and development activities.

We are looking for creative and enthusiastic candidates able to motivate partners and members of the public to engage with libraries and to develop vibrant and innovative activity programmes and new opportunities for local communities.

The successful candidates will need to be able to manage a challenging workload, using their own initiative and adapting to changing circumstances.  You must be a team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of partners.

If you can bring your jazz hands combined with practical organisation skills, then you’ll fit into our team.
