About the Post:

Barnsley has an ambitious strategy to re-energise our Library Service, creating community and digital hubs at the heart of our communities and developing a vibrant events and activities programme to engage all members of our communities.  With the recently opened Library@TheLightbox as part of the ‘The Glassworks’, the Council’s transformative town centre development scheme, and supported by plans to refurbish our branch libraries, this is an exciting time to join the Service.

We are looking for a positive and energetic leader for the Library Service’s Development Team, able to create new opportunities for events, partnerships and to connect with local communities. You will lead on information provision, digital services, stock management, marketing and promotion and outreach activities, enthusing staff, colleagues and partners, and be responsible for the development and delivery of a diverse range of activities, initiatives and events to support the national Universal Offers and strategic outcomes for public libraries.

The successful candidate will hold a Level 6 degree in a relevant subject (e.g., arts, culture, education, librarianship) with significant experience working in a public library environment.  Your experience should include delivering diverse and successful activity and events programmes, library stock management, and increasing participation through targeted marketing or engagement plans.

The successful candidate will also have experience motivating and managing a team of staff, setting and monitoring targets along with the development of service plans and the evaluation of performance.

Barnsley Council is a high-performing council with clear and tangible ambitions for its residents, communities and stakeholders. The council’s 2030 vision is for Barnsley to be the place of possibilities, so if you share this ambition and can help our libraries transform into community places of possibilities, then we would love to hear from you.
