Pensions Regulations have provisions to reduce pension payments in certain circumstances of those who return to work within local government service.  If you are in receipt of a pension upon commencing employment with the authority, this may affect your pension entitlements and you should therefore seek advice from the relevant Pensions Authority.

About the Post:

Following several successful European Social Fund Bids and monies provided to support residents in  the recovery phase of the Covid-19 pandemic,  BMBC Adult Employment Service are seeking to recruit  2 Information, Advice and Guidance advisors to work throughout the Barnsley area. All opportunities are initially offered on a fixed term basis, but subject to securing additional funding, these opportunities may be extended. The full time posts are also being offered as a job share and as secondment opportunities for candidates with the required qualifications and experience.

The positions on offer are varied in nature and as such  two days are very rarely the same - you will need to be organised, responsive and flexible to meet, and support, the needs of customers and the funding contracts.  You will work as part of a small team to deliver information, advice and guidance to unemployed and economically inactive customers located throughout the Borough. The ability to keep accurate reports of interventions and meetings is a key requirement for the role, but you should also be enthusiastic, motivated and engaging with good communication skills and a positive outlook. You will be required to develop a good relationship with customers from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds, undertaking an initial assessment of needs and arranging regular follow up meetings and interventions.  Working with both internal and external agencies, you will develop a range of pathways to enable you to move your customers towards, or into employment, education or training opportunities.

In order to attract candidates with suitable experience to support this project, this role is a career progression opportunity offered at two levels. For the level 1 position you will require a minimum Level 2 in English and be qualified to at least Level 3. The level 2 opportunity requires Level 2 in English and a minimum Level 4 IAG qualification or equivalent in a  related field. Where a level 4 IAG qualification is not held there may be the possibility of undertaking this qualification  as a development opportunity.

Applicants will need to be able to work flexibly and be able to travel across the borough and within the Yorkshire and Humber region. Some occasional evening and weekend work is also required.

As Covid-19 restrictions are removed, there  is an expectation that some of the working week will be based within one of our offices located within the Barnsley area.

Please note that offers of employment are conditional on the production of the required certificates so it is important that you check the job profile to ensure you have these before you submit your application. For this role an Enhanced DBC check will also be undertaken.

For an informal discussion, please contact Carol Booth on 07795305852

Interviews are expected to be held week commencing 28th June 2021
