About the Post:

Fusion, Barnsley’s Local Cultural Education Partnership (LCEP), is about to embark on an ambitious programme (up to December 2023) to elevate the partnership to a new level by providing capacity to drive the delivery of strategy that strengthens and embeds links with the borough’s education sector and realises our goal of firmly embedding youth voice at the heart of the partnership.

We are seeking to employ as a Sector Specialist Officer to manage the Fusion Network. This role will be fundamental to the success of this programme and the future strength of Fusion. It will add capacity to the existing Fusion Co-ordinator to develop strategy and infrastructure to build on successes (Creative Exchange and Fusion Network Events) achieved so far and facilitate new ways of working that make the partnership even more resilient. The role will lead on the development of a network of Creativity Champions across primary schools in Barnsley – teachers/SLT who advocate for arts and culture in their school.

The role also presents an exciting opportunity to be at the centre of a partnership with youth voice at its core. The Spector Specialist Officer will develop and lead on plans that enable children and young people (CYP) to play an active role in Fusion’s strategy. The role will facilitate CYP to develop a strong, clear voice in the strategic development of the arts and cultural offer in Barnsley and work to unite organisations working with CYP across the borough. This will encourage greater collaboration that leads to increased access to high quality arts, heritage, cultural and creative education and experiences that bring positive change for those aged 0-25 years.

The Sector Specialist Officer will be employed by BMBC and report to Barnsley Museums Learning Manager (who sits on Fusion’s Steering Group).

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, warm and approachable individual who is excited by collaboration and can take initiative, championing arts and culture for children and young people and inspiring those around them with the potential of Fusion. A sound understanding of safeguarding principles, a passion for increasing access for children and young people to high quality arts, heritage, cultural and creative education and experiences and an understanding of the impact this can have to bring about positive change are essential. You will have significant experience in this field, be able to work with a network of schools and organisations to encourage arts participation in areas of low engagement with a creative approach. You will have experience of working with children and young people on arts and cultural learning projects and have knowledge of the education sector, be committed to the cultural sector, have a passion for the transformational potential of culture.

WHAT IS FUSION?

Fusion is Barnsley’s Local Cultural Education Partnership (LCEP).  It is made up of a range of organisations from the education sector, early years, public health, the local authority, cultural, arts and community sectors, who work in partnership to provide opportunities for ALL children and young people (CYP) in Barnsley to access the best of local arts and culture across the borough. Funded by IVE, Yorkshire and the Humber’s Arts Council England Bridge organisation, Sheffield City Region and some of Fusion’s partners (Barnsley College, BMBC Marketing, Barnsley Schools Alliance Board and Berneslai Homes), the programme will add capacity to strengthen and grow Fusion. It will establish a core Fusion facilitation role with the appointment of a Sector Specialist Officer to manage the network, working alongside Fusion’s existing Co-ordinator to develop strategy and infrastructure to build on successes achieved by the partnership so far and facilitate new ways of working that make the partnership even more resilient.

The role will enable the partnership to develop its work with schools through the exciting development of a network of Creativity Champions in primary schools across the borough. This will support the further development of Artsmark and Arts Award and ensure the growth of the partnership as well as feeding into the strategic development of the Festival of Joy - Barnsley’s first ever festival for children and young people.

It will also allow the development of a major new strand of work to improve Fusion’s two-way conversation with young people and embed youth voice in the partnership through the development of a digital platform a place where CYP can showcase their work and engage in two-way conversation with Fusion’s network of artists and cultural practitioners.  This exciting development will be co-created with CYP and will provide an increased digital presence that will develop opportunities, both in and out of school, for young people who face the greatest barriers to arts and cultural opportunities.
