About the Post:

 

The Role

Barnsley Council’s IT service plays a crucial role in supporting the organisation’s Future Council Strategy and Corporate Plan along with it’s Digital First Strategy.  Opportunities are available for 2 ICT Technical Specialists in the System Management team.

 

We currently have two vacancies available to lead with support and development of our critical information systems within System Management.  The post-holder will play a vital role in ensuring that critical IT systems remain operational, supported and compliant specifically, with one candidate working primarily around benefits and taxation. The successful candidates will be required to plan, analyse, and provide lead technical support for some of the council’s critical IT systems.

 

We and are looking for candidates with strong knowledge and experience in the following areas:

 

  • Capita Academy benefits and taxation, preferably on a Windows platform
  • Northgate Information@Work document management system
  • Strong SQL knowledge (SQL Server and Ingres)
  • Strong experience of systems administration of large key line of business applications

Your role in our journey

As an ICT Technical Specialist, you’ll provide vital detailed technical support across a range of Information and Communication Technology services. Crucially, at this time of change and beyond, you’ll play a lead role in developing, testing and deploying new ICT systems, solutions and infrastructure. We will look to you to make sure our systems comply with best practice, policies and procedures, and are fully monitored and controlled. From troubleshooting and fault finding, to information gathering, data analysis and reporting, a wide range of people will rely on your expertise and dedication.

 

What you’ll need

To join us, you’ll need a relevant Level 6 qualification and, preferably, ITIL Foundation Certificate. You’ll certainly have significant experience of delivering technical ICT services, including the provision of tech solutions for projects. Your track record spans service management, testing and deploying, analysing data and producing reports. Familiar with a range of different systems, development applications or infrastructure platforms, you have the collaborative spirit and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with experts and non-experts alike, at all levels.
