This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in making big changes happen. At Barnsley, we’re shaping a bright new future for our council and our communities and as part of our team, you’ll help us to bring our people with us on the road to growth, transformation and improvement. Join us on our journey to a brighter future. By working together, with each other and with our communities, we can take pride in improving lives. Let’s make a better Barnsley for everyone.

Your role in our journey

This role is temporary to cover maternity leave and is a crucial component to the successful planning and development of workforce initiatives. The primary focus of this post is to drive forward the organisation and workforce development agenda by supporting services within the Council, and its partners.  The postholder will help support appropriate development opportunities that meet business objectives and provide a robust framework of development and progression for the individual.  You’ll proactively liaise, negotiate and collaborate with people across and external to the council. Crucially, you will use feedback and data to evaluate our activities, identifying improvements and ensuring value for money.

What you’ll need

To join us, you’ll need a Level 4 Diploma in an area relevant to the role and you will bring knowledge and experience of workforce issues which complement the demands of the Advisor post.  With highly developed communication skills, you will have experience of providing individuals with professional advice and guidance and delivering formal presentations to a wide range of audiences.  A knowledge of apprenticeships would be advantageous.

We want someone who can be proactive, dynamic and comfortable with working with a diverse range of individuals, services and organisations to get the job done.

A lot to look forward to

Our award-winning council is on an exciting journey of change. It’s all about putting local people at the heart of everything, listening to and doing the best for our communities. We’re now more innovative, more efficient and provide better value for money. Here at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do. As part of our team, you can be sure we’ll do all we can to support you in being truly excellent and enable you to achieve your potential. We’ve created a development process that lets you grow in the way that suits you - whether that’s training to be a leader or learning flexibly online. That’s one of the reasons why we are so proud to have achieved IiP Gold, and why you’ll find your career here inspiring and rewarding.
