Prospective employees will be required to give a reasonable account of any significant periods (6 months or more in the past 3 years) of time living abroad. 

About the Post: 

Following a recent Future Council Review, we are seeking highly motivated experienced staff to complement the council’s Neighbourhood Services Team in delivering efficient and effective grounds based services to the borough of Barnsley.

The duties associated with the role will include the following: -

• Litter collection, litter bin emptying
• Removal / installation of litter / dog bins
• Fly tipping removal
• Grass / hedge cutting
• Erecting / repairing fencing
• Flower bed planting (under guidance)
• Minor arbor work
Manual solvent based graffiti removal
• Snow clearing & gritting

The role could be based at any of the depot location associated with the operations of Neighbourhood Services and will be subject to change based on service need. You will report directly to the respective Team Leader and will be expected to carry out allocated work in accordance with the respective Job Profile to a high standard of safety and quality.

You will have experience of working in all weather conditions and will be able to undertake strenuous duties, often under pressure to meet targets and deadlines while also remaining effective and efficient at all times.

The ability to work and integrate with established teams is essential. You will be able to interpret plans, drawings and briefing notes and be able to communicate effectively with service users, including members of the public, council officers and ward members.

An annualised hours working pattern with variable start and finish time covering Mon to Sun will be employed therefore a flexible approach to working days & times will be needed.  This is necessary in order to meet the varying demands for service throughout the year.

Due to the nature of the working pattern and expected hours, to ensure compliance with the Working Time Regulations 1998 this post is only suitable for applicants of 18 years and above.
