Group Manager Waste & Neighbourhood Services – Barnsley MBC – Overview

The group manager of Waste & Neighbourhood Services will provide leadership and operational management of two high-profile front line services. You will play a key role in the development and delivery of strategic plans that improve service quality and ensure alignment with Council’s vision, priorities and values, whilst be responsible for managing these day-to-day operational services.

Barnsley Council is changing; the Future Council Improvement Strategy has been developed to bring about fundamental organisational transformation to enable us to be an effective, efficient, high performing and sustainable Future Council. Our vision is working together for a brighter future, a better Barnsley.

Barnsley is changing; our vision for the new town centre includes a range of retail and leisure activities and events, as well as civic amenities like the new library and a sixth form college. The new town square, shopping boulevard and training and enterprise centre offer opportunities for businesses to invest, by developing new buildings, cafes, or new leisure and retail sites.

We’re looking for candidates to play a key role in leading a newly merged waste & recycling service with our neighbourhood services team.

If you:

Have the ability to lead the next stage of recycling across the borough, whilst merging with our neighbourhood services?

The experience to improve our efficiency and effectiveness whilst continuing to deliver good customer focused services?

Want to be in at the beginning to influence and shape a new vision for service delivery then you could be exactly what we are looking for.

We have a lot to offer you too – Barnsley has seen the highest private sector job growth in the UK from 2012-2013, has some of the most affordable property around, with great links to the outdoors and cities alike; and offers a commute that isn’t clogged up with traffic.

Following the creation of a new Recycling, Neighbourhoods and Transportation function within the Environment and Transport Business Unit, we are seeking to recruit an experienced and talented Group Manager for Waste and Neighbourhood Services to lead, manage and develop and delivery of our;

• In-house waste and recycling collection services; and our
• In-house neighbourhoods teams;

The role will report directly to the Head of Operations and will have responsibility for around 175 staff, including front line operatives, supervisors and senior service managers.
