How do we sum up Barnsley Council? Well, we’re a double award-winning, high-performing council with a growing economy, a thriving town centre and some truly impressive outcomes in our communities. This is why we’ve been awarded Council of the Year for 2023 by the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) and The Municipal Journal (MJ).
Our excellent Growth & Sustainability service has been a key part of our win; we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved not just for the council but for our partners and Barnsley.
We’re impressed. Are you? It’s the perfect time to join our excellent team.
About the Post:
We are looking for a proven or emerging Leader to oversee one of our Development Management Teams. Barnsley has recently been awarded Council of the Year by the Local Government Chronicle and in part this is attributed to the work of the Planning Service, which has helped to facilitate a once in a generation town centre regeneration project and significant economic development at strategic locations within the borough.
The Development Management team has the benefit of a Local Plan that was recently reviewed and deemed fit for purpose as well as an extensive suite of Supplementary Planning Documents and Masterplan Framework to guide decision making. The service also has a strong track record in relation to appeals, enforcement and timeliness of decisions.
As Group Leader you will be responsible for leading one of our area teams dealing with the full range of planning applications. You will be an experienced planner, with a sound working knowledge of development management who will work confidently with elected members, developers and partners to deliver the best development in Barnsley.
