About the Post:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Accounting Technician supporting the Council to deliver its new Council Plan and Barnsley 2030 Strategy.
Working within the Finance Business Unit, the successful applicant will play a pivotal role in ensuring the business unit can fulfil its key priorities that front line services receive an efficient, effective and market leading financial support service.
The Council’s recently adopted People Strategy will act to support the successful candidate to adopt the culture and behaviours of a modern, agile, healthy, engaged, skilled and innovative workforce.
About the role
Working within the Corporate Finance and Business Partnering service, the Accounting Technician plays an important part in ensure that the Council’s core financial systems are up to date and maintained and that services are provided with the key information they require to make strategic decisions.
Reporting to the Principal Accountant, the role is directly responsible for providing a comprehensive suite of professional financial management services including:

accounts maintenance,

budget setting and control
-
accounts co-ordination
-
and other accountancy/transactional functions to specialist services assisting with the delivery of the Section 151 Officer’s statutory responsibilities in support of the Council’s operating model
About you
The successful candidate will be an intelligent, ambitious individual who is seeking to progress a professionally qualified career in finance and accounting. With good communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, being able to adapt their approach, behaviours and actions to address the tasks in hand being able to work as part of a core team and flexible in their approach to meet the demands of the business unit and wider council.
To note, the successful candidate will be appointed to the appropriate level based on their demonstrated skills, attributes and qualifications.
