The successful candidate will be required to speak English to an appropriate standard.

 

The successful candidate will be required to be available outside of services normal working hours as part of a standby rota to respond to out of hours service needs.  A standardised standby payment will be made in respect of these duties.

About the Post:

Are you passionate about working with young people and have a drive and energy to improve their outcomes?  

 

Barnsley Youth Justice Service is expanding, and we are seeking a professional with a considerable level of practice excellence to join our team in the role of Youth Justice Practitioner and support innovative and reflective approaches to:

  • Reducing reoffending
  • Diverting children from the criminal justice system and from exploitation
  • Protecting the public
  • Making Barnsley a safe place to live

Our service puts the Child First; places victims at the centre of practice and recognises the impact of discrimination on children, families, and wider communities.  You will be able to evidence in your practice a shared commitment to these principles.

This role has a broad portfolio of responsibility and will require you to work closely with partners to address the impact of  risk issues, including the impact of exploitation, harmful behaviours and abuse on victims and wider communities.

 

We are seeking applications from candidates who:

  • have direct experience of practice in a criminal justice partnership environment
  • thrive in highly pressured and challenging environments
  • have significant experience of working within a partnership approach to the management of complex risk
  • have a considerable knowledge of risk and of how to develop defensible plans to reduce identified risk
  • are willing to work flexibly in accordance with policies and procedures to meet the operational needs of the council, including weekend working and working into the evenings as required by the assessed needs of young people and their families and the service.

 

Your practice will be of a very high standard, and you will role model this work to others. You will have responsibility to:

  • Work as part of a motivated and innovative team to achieve the best outcomes for children
  • To provide written reports to Referral Order panels, Youth and Crown Courts, Child Protection conferences and other formal forums that are of a high standard and effectively convey the views of the Youth Justice Service
  • Analyse, assess and manage risk
  • To act as an appropriate role model for children and young people at all times.
  • Effectively manage a caseload of the most complex children
