We're looking for an exceptional individual to lead on the development of our outdoor markets in the borough and to support business growth in Barnsley town centre and the high streets of the Principal Towns.
Your role:
- Ensure the smooth running of our established outdoor markets in Goldthorpe, Hoyland, Penistone and Wombwell, working towards the delivery of the Principal Towns Markets Strategy 2024-27.
- Develop our established outdoor markets in the Principal Towns, assessing and driving up the quality and range of the offer, introducing animation and performance, and monitoring customer satisfaction.
- Establish good relationships with market traders and businesses in Barnsley town centre and high streets in the Principal Towns, develop a robust local intelligence, and manage an accurate database of contacts.
- Contribute to the place management of the town centre and high streets in the Principal Towns by running Business Meetings, where interested parties can attend to find out more about our projects, network, and share news and challenges.
- Work with market traders and high streets businesses in the Principal Towns to support them to form representative groups, such as a market traders association, or high street community interest group. Act as a liaison for established groups.

Requirements:
- Proven experience in running outdoor market-type events, such as traditional retail markets, craft fairs, farmers markets, or seasonal fetes and fayres.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships with independent business owners.
- Exceptional organisational abilities and attention to detail, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A proactive work ethic and positive mindset with a passion for driving positive change within the community.
