About the Post:

Become a Health Inequalities Community Connector and be part of exciting changes in Barnsley 

We’re excited to be recruiting a Health Inequalities Community Connector here in Barnsley, the place of possibilities. We are looking for candidates with a passion for improving the lives of our residents, with visioncreativity and the ability to work effectively with communities and partners 

Healthy life expectancy in Barnsley is around 55 years of age, significantly lower than the England average. This role will play a vital part in improving healthy life expectancy and quality of life for our residents, through direct involvement  with residents who face the poorest health outcomes.  

The role will be hosted in our Resilient Communities team. You will be working directly with local people,  community groups, Area Council teams and other services, to help understand the issues people face, and connect residents with opportunities to improve their health. The role will help the development of new activities, promote existing opportunities and linking up services in targeted geographical areas of Barnsley . The role will actively encourage participation with communities, using creative methods to understand their health needs and assets, and supporting them to develop, deliver and sustain projects that improve health, wellbeing, resilience and cohesion.

  

We are keen to employ someone with some creative skills, who can engage with residents utilising a variety of methods and use their initiative to develop interventions which support communities that require it the most. 

  

Your role in our journey

  

As a community connector, you will work directly within communities in Barnsley to reach as many people as possibleto support positive behaviour change and better health. You will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Significant experience leading community involvement and participation projects with a health and wellbeing focus. 

  • Understanding of health inequalities and strategies to address these within communities 

  • The ability to utilise creative approaches to community involvement to improve health and wellbeing outcomes
