About the Post: 

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Finance Officer supporting the Council to deliver its new Council Plan and Be Even Better Strategy.  

Working within the Finance Business Unit in the Operational Finance Team.  

 

We’re looking for someone just like you to be a Finance Officer here at Barnsley Council supporting the Revenues and Benefits function. 

We are looking for two talented individuals to assist with Council Tax billing and collection as well as supporting with the Council Tax Support function as part of our Operational Finance service. 

This crucial role supports our community and ensures funding for vital services in the borough, aligning with the Council’s commitment to efficient and effective service delivery.  

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and ambitious, taking advantage of the learning and development available to support you in developing your career within a local authority environment as this is a career graded post. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Providing excellent customer service over a busy helpline 

  • Dealing with all incoming digital communications 

  • Navigation of and inputting into the Council’s management systems, including processing of council tax records, reliefs, discounts and appeals. 

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders 

  • Contribute to business process re-engineering improvements across all functional areas to drive forward efficiencies. 

  • Undertake duties whilst dealing with interruptions, queries and conflicting demands arising from customer and service queries.

 

About You

We want someone who is methodical in their approach and can maintain accurate records using corporate electronic systems and can undertake timely interpretation of financial information. 

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and ambitious taking advantage of the learning and development available to develop their career within a local authority revenues environment as this is a career graded post. 

 

This role would be an excellent opportunity for someone with an experience in working in council tax billing and/or collection although this is not essential.
