About the Post:
This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on the health of the people of Barnsley. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced person who can demonstrate public health skills to maximise the impact of the wider determinants of health at a local level.
Barnsley is a ‘public health council’, where all public health staff are valued, and their contribution makes a real difference across all our directorates. We believe that addressing the circumstances that people are born into, live and work will have the greatest impact on their health and reduce the gap in health inequalities.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Public Health Principal to join the Growth and Sustainability Directorate to take this agenda forward. This is the role for you if you are an ambitious and motivating leader, a strategic thinker who can see opportunities and maximise them for public health benefit.
You will be working with directors and heads of service to develop health promoting approaches directly within our assets, employment and skills, housing, inclusive economic development, planning, culture and the arts, the environment, waste and recycling, highways and transport (including active travel and physical activity). You’ll be confident in supporting the delivery of a range of different projects and strategic programmes across the directorate, continuously advocating for a public health approach, working with the community and our partner organisations.
You will have a strong understanding of the wider determinants of health and the levers available to us to improve health, alongside excellent communication, partnership and negotiation skills. You will have experience of working collaboratively with a diverse range of colleagues and stakeholders.
